Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The file is opened and compressed entirely in your browser, so it never leaves your device.
How does the compression work?
Each page is re-rendered at a lower resolution and saved as an optimised JPEG inside a new PDF. That's why scanned documents and image-heavy files shrink the most.
Will my text still be selectable?
No. Because pages are rasterised, text becomes part of the page image. Use Basic if you want the sharpest result, or keep your original for editing.
Why did my file not get smaller?
Some PDFs are already highly optimised. If compression would make the file bigger, we tell you and keep your original rather than claiming a fake reduction.
