What is PDF metadata?

Every PDF carries a small set of document properties: a title, an author, a subject, keywords, the software that produced it and creation dates. Readers, search engines and document management systems use those fields, and they are often left over from whoever created the original file.

Why edit it?

  • Give a document a proper title so it shows correctly in a PDF reader's window and in search results.
  • Remove an old author name before sharing a file outside your organisation.
  • Add keywords so the file is easy to find in a shared drive.

Does this remove all hidden information?

It rewrites the standard document properties. Content inside the pages themselves, such as text or comments, is not changed.

Why do some fields say “Not set”?

Many PDFs are exported without a title, author or keywords. Empty fields simply mean the original file never stored that value.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The file is read and saved entirely in your browser.

Can I clear a field completely?

Yes. Empty a field before saving and it will be written as blank in the new PDF.
