Which format should you choose?

WebP — usually the smallest for the same visual quality, supports transparency, and is supported by all modern browsers.
JPG — best for photographs and the most widely accepted format for uploads and printing. No transparency.
PNG — lossless with transparency, ideal for logos, screenshots and graphics with sharp edges.

About quality

JPG and WebP use lossy compression, so the quality slider controls the trade-off between detail and file size. PNG is lossless and ignores the slider. Converting a JPG to PNG will usually produce a larger file, because the already-discarded detail cannot be recovered.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion happens on a canvas inside your browser and nothing leaves your device.

Why did my file get bigger?

Converting a compressed JPG to lossless PNG almost always increases the size. Choose WebP or JPG if a small file is the goal.

What happens to transparency?

PNG and WebP keep transparent areas. Converting to JPG fills them with white, since JPG cannot store transparency.

Is there a limit on the number of files?

There is no fixed limit, but very large batches use a lot of memory. Convert in groups of around twenty for the smoothest experience.
