How currency conversion works here

Exchange rates are published against a single base currency — US dollars in this case. To convert between any two currencies the amount is first expressed in dollars and then multiplied by the target currency’s rate: amount ÷ rate(from) × rate(to). That keeps every pair consistent, including cross rates such as MYR to JPY.

Mid-market rates versus what you pay

The rates shown are mid-market: the midpoint between buying and selling prices on the interbank market. Banks, card networks and money-transfer services apply a spread on top, typically between 0.5% and 4%, and may add a fixed fee. Use this converter for planning and comparison rather than as a quote.

Rates change continuously

Currency markets trade around the clock on weekdays. The update timestamp above tells you exactly when the figures were published; refresh the rates before relying on them for anything time-sensitive. Over a weekend the last published rate can be two days old.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the exchange rates come from?

They are fetched from a free public exchange-rate feed when the page loads, and the exact update time and source are shown next to the result.

What happens if the rates cannot be loaded?

The converter switches to a clearly labelled set of static reference rates and tells you they are not live, so a stale number is never presented as a current rate.

Why is my bank's rate different?

These are mid-market rates. Banks and card issuers add a margin and sometimes a fixed fee, so the rate you are charged is usually a little worse.

Are my amounts sent anywhere?

No. Only the rate table is downloaded. The conversion itself happens in your browser and your amounts are never transmitted.
