Runs entirely in your browser

Conversions use published, exact factors and are calculated on your device. Nothing is uploaded and no API is needed.

How the conversions work

Every unit in a category is defined against one base unit — meters for length, kilograms for mass, pascals for pressure and so on. A value is first converted to that base unit, then divided by the factor of the target unit. This two-step approach keeps results consistent no matter which pair of units you pick.

Temperature is different

Temperature scales have different zero points, so they use formulas rather than factors: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 and K = °C + 273.15. 100 °C converts to 212 °F and 373.15 K.

Useful reference values

  • 1 kilometer = 0.621371 miles; 1 mile = 1.609344 kilometers
  • 1 meter = 3.28084 feet; 1 foot = 0.3048 meters exactly
  • 1 kilogram = 2.204623 pounds; 1 pound = 0.45359237 kg exactly
  • 1 liter = 0.264172 US gallons; 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 liters
  • 1 GB = 1000 MB (decimal) while 1 GiB = 1024 MiB (binary)

Decimal versus binary storage

Drive manufacturers use decimal units (1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes) while operating systems often report binary units (1 MiB = 1,048,576 bytes). Both are listed separately so you can convert between the two without guessing.

Frequently asked questions

Are the conversion factors accurate?

Yes. The converter uses internationally defined factors, such as one inch being exactly 0.0254 meters and one pound being exactly 0.45359237 kilograms.

Does it need an internet connection?

Only to load the page. All calculations run in your browser with no external service involved.

Why do MB and MiB give different numbers?

MB is decimal (1000 kB) and MiB is binary (1024 KiB). Both are available so you can match whichever system your device reports.

Can I convert temperature below absolute zero?

The maths still runs, but values below -273.15 °C are not physically meaningful, so double-check your input if you see a negative Kelvin value.
