How this world clock stays accurate

Each city is rendered with the browser’s internationalisation APIs against the IANA time zone database. That database carries the daylight-saving rules for every region, so cities such as London, Paris, New York and Sydney shift automatically on their own changeover dates, while Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Bangkok, Jakarta, Tokyo and Dubai stay on a fixed offset all year.

Reading the cards

• UTC offset shows how far the city currently sits from Coordinated Universal Time.
• Daytime or Night is a quick guide based on local hours, useful before calling someone.
• Different date appears when the city has already moved to the next day, or is still on the previous one.
